This no yeast, super simple beer bread will no doubt become your favourite bread to go along side your winter meals! It’s full of flavour, crisp on the outside and chewy and soft on the inside. I used Guinness beer which gave a dark rich molasses flavour. I highly recommend using a stout for a richer flavour moving into the cooler winter days.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 3 cups (384 g) all-purpose flour, sifted
  • 3 Tablespoons sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 12 oz Guinness Stout Beer
  • 1/4 cup (58 g) unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350ËšF. Grease a loaf pan with butter and dust with flour. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl add sifted flour, sugar, baking powder and salt, stir to combine.
  3. Pour beer into flour mixture and mix ingredients together just until combined (don’t overmix).
  4. Pour batter into prepared pan.
  5. Top loaf with slices of butter.
  6. Bake in the bottom third of the oven for 40-45 minutes.
  7. Let cool on a wire rack for 10-12 minutes before serving.

Notes

Beer bread will last 3-4 days stored in a tin or freeze for up to one month.

To freeze beer bread, cool it, wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and seal in a freezer bag or airtight container. Thaw in the fridge overnight and reheat in the oven at 350˚F for approx. 8 mins.
