I have a weak spot when it comes to fresh baguettes, breads, and biscuits lathered in creamy sweet butter. One of my favourite things to do while I travelled Europe was to stop at a cafe/restaurant to enjoy a piece of fresh baguette spread with butter and sprinkled with fleur de sel.
But the butter, oh how I love butter and the richness and flavour it gives. In Europe the butter fat is higher and the flavours just seem to dance in my mouth. They just seem to get it right when it comes to enjoying the simple pleasures of food. It’s not about using copious amounts of butter, but adding it here and there to add a little richness and flavour.
I’ve discovered that here in Canada we have lovely, rich and creamy butter too. It’s taken some time to develop but Stirling Butter has got it right and I’m becoming a butter connoisseur! It’s full of rich silky flavour that’s smooth and delicate. I love the butter alone, melted on a fresh warm baguette where you can really taste the depth of the butter… but I love it even more when combined with sweet flavours like Strawberries, Blueberries, and Maple Syrup.
My favourite so far is the maple butter! You just need a little to enjoy the flavour. I baked some Buttermilk scones to enjoy the butters with, you can find the recipe here.
Making sweet flavoured butter couldn’t be any easier. Simply bring butter to room temperature and add your desired flavour.
Happy Butter Making 🙂
